Revolutionary New Technology in possibly the most simple form we could have ever imagined. Developers have invented a new type of ..... IDK even what to call it. A Nerve patch? Band-Aid? Reconnector? But Anyone would accurately explain the device if we could call it that. |
As a Young troublesome man, I often found myself at the bottom of a bottle getting myself into trouble for many years, one of them I put my hand through a window and have lived with no nerve connections in my right hand ever since.
I had often thought to myself if nerves are basically electrical wiring why can't we just reconnect the wiring and e done with it. Funny enough this is what they do if the nerves are available to reconnect. However in many cases such as spinal cord injury, any direct surgical procedure will most likely result in more damage to the already served nerves.
This new device works much like a band-aid, patch or a bridge even of sorts to allow a passageway for signals from one section of nerves to connect to another section of nerves.
The process, in theory, should work extremely well, it has been documented in numerous cases in which nerve endings will rewire themselves as long as they are all provided a full connection. This happened to me with my right hand. I should have no feeling in all of my right hand but my middle finger and my ring finger. However after about a year or so I got feeling back in the pad of my thumb and tips of my index and pinky finger. So I did not gain back full use my nerves but the ones which I used often rewired themselves all on their own.
For a Spinal cord, however, is less rare and more complicated. A Hand has nowhere near the amount of connections the spinal cord does and this device should be just enough for the vast majority of cases of spinal cord injuries to completely be repairable.
